Pierre & Vacances unveils partnership with Pop in the City

The leading French accommodation provider Pierre & Vacances is delighted to announce a unique partnership with Pop in the City, an organisation that arranges adventure races for women in cities and towns across Europe. On Easter Sunday, 200 participants will take part in an eight-hour competition that will involve 30 challenges in the beautiful French Alpine resort of Avoriaz.

Pop in the City was launched in 2012 by a trio of young French women who got the idea from their own travels. They arrange events that are designed for female athletes of all abilities and include themed challenges, providing a fun way for participants to explore new locations and to test their physical fitness levels. Previous host destinations have included Porto, Bologna and Hamburg, with the fist UK edition taking place in 2019 in St Andrews.

The 12 April 2020 edition of Pop in the City will for the first time include male participants. In teams of two, attendees will have the opportunity to compete in up to 30 challenges spanning the themes of art, culture, sport, charity and ‘the extreme’. In addition to skiing, participants will learn how to wax skis, have the chance to play the Alpine Horn, get to take care of the famous horses of Avoriaz, pilot a snowmobile and even learn how to rescue an injured skier on a stretcher.

Pierre & Vacances is synonyms with Avoriaz and is the official accommodation provider for the event. The group has multiple properties at the resort, each stylish and practical, catering to a range of tastes and budgets. They include the five-star Premium residence L’Amara, which features an indoor heated swimming pool and Deep Nature Spa® with an outdoor hot tub; the four-star Residence Électra, with chic self-catering apartments and an onsite ski shop; and the three-star Residence Saskia Falaise, which boasts spectacular views over the Morzine valley. Those that register for the Avoriaz edition of Pop in the City will be sent a discount code entitling them to 20% off their Pierre & Vacances stay.

Avoriaz is at the heart of the Franco-Swiss Portes du Soleil ski area, a fantastic winter playground with more than 600 km of skiing under one lift pass. The delightful purpose-built ski resort has been a favourite with skiers for half a century, with its four terrain parks, excellent powder and wide range of pistes. Built on a sunny shelf high above the neighbouring village of Morzine, Avoriaz has an altitude of 1,800 m, meaning great snow fall and plenty of sunshine. The town centre is completely pedestrianised and boasts an impressive array of boutique shops and superb restaurants, with horse drawn carriages, snowcats and skis as the only means of transportation.

Registration for the Avoriaz edition of Pop in the City is now open and costs €179 / £149 per person. The price includes access to all the challenges, a race number, a city guide, an official Pop in the City bracelet and access to

the award’s ceremony.

Alexia Jubert, Pierre & Vacances Marketing Director said: “Further to our acquisition of RendezvousChezNous at the end of 2018, a platform that provides authentic holiday experiences, we are thrilled to be partnering with Pop in the City, a fantastic event that reflects our values. The fun and inclusive race, which promotes active lifestyles, is a perfect fit for the Pierre & Vacances brand. We encourage everyone to take part in this unique event in the beautiful resort of Avoriaz, and our local hosts look forward to welcoming participants and spectators alike.”

A three-night self-catered stay at Pierre & Vacances’ five-star Premium residence L’Amara in Avoriaz, in a one-bedroom apartment sleeping up to four, arriving 11 April 2020, is priced from £514 per apartment / £129 pp. Flights, transfers and event registration extra.
