North Pole Express: Barneo Ice Camp At 89° North

Video Highlights Creation of Fly-In Camp New For 2016

Last month, Quark Expeditions®, the world’s leading polar expedition company, announced its exciting new North Pole land based programme. This month, a team of experts head to a previously scouted location very near 90° north to establish this year’s seasonal, fly-in base camp on the icy sea of the North Polar Basin. Established each year to be a functioning Russian science and logistics station, the site is operated by the Expedition Center for the Russian Geographical Society.

About Barneo Ice Camp: Barneo is a private seasonal base established annually on an ice floe close to the North Pole, shared by the global scientific community. Because of the constant moving ice on the Arctic Ocean, Barneo is rebuilt from scratch each year. The ice camp is a unique complex hosting visitors and base personnel, and consists of specially designed tents with rigid frames and comfortable bedding. Heated facilities and meals are included, as are snacks, tea and coffee. The mess tent for visitors is the main area for meetings and briefings, and for taking meals.

Expeditions are available at £19,795 per person based on double occupancy, and include overnight accommodation pre- and post-Barneo in Longyearbyen. Save £350 per person on bookings made before May 1, 2015. Flights not included. For more information visit www.quarkexpeditions.com   or call 0808 120 2333.
