Focussing on South Tyrol’s finest wines and beginning on the 17th March 2013

Michelin-starred chefs, ski legends and wines from South Tyrol, in Alta Badia in the heart of the Dolomites

Alta Badia – On Sunday 17th March 2013, Alta Badia takes the best wines of the South Tyrol region 2000 m above sea level for a tasting, accompanied by speck, cheese and bread: all with the “Alto Adige Quality” trademark. This is a great way to finish the winter season, dedicated to food and wine. The event will take place at the Club Moritzino, I Tablá, Ciampai, Bioch, Piz Arlara and Col Alt refuges, in the Alta Badia ski area from 10 am to 4 pm.

A winter holiday is much more than downhill skiing. “A Taste for Skiing”, which focuses on typical South Tyrolean products, has for several years offered the winning combination of winter sports and fine food and wine, the strong points of the area. This year the event is even more exciting, with the SLOPE FOOD initiative, snacks on the slopes created by 12 famous gourmet chefs, including the Dolomitici Norbert Niederkofler (from the St. Hubertus restaurant), Arturo Spicocchi (La Stüa de Michil restaurant) and Fabio Cucchelli (La Siriola restaurant), available in 12 Alta Badia refuges. The snacks will, of course, be accompanied by a fine glass of South Tyrol wine.

South Tyrol wines stand out for their excellent quality; the result of a favourable climate, fertile soil and the dedication of the producers, and play a key role in gastronomic events in Alta Badia: not only in local refuges and restaurants.

With “Dé dl vin,  Alto Adige Wine Ski Safari”, Alta Badia, in partnership with the Alto Adige Wine Consortium, aims to devote a special day to local wines with a tasting high up on the slopes. Each of the six refuges (Club Moritzino, I Tablá, Ciampai, Bioch, Piz Arlara and Col Alt) will serve the leading grape varieties Pinot Blanc, Sauvignon, Gewürztraminer, Schiava, Lagrein and Pinot Noir. Those taking part will also have the opportunity to sample white wines from the Isarco Valley and sparkling wines from South Tyrol…together with live music at some of the refuges.

This event on 17th March 2013 is a wonderful ski journey for wine lovers to discover the great range of wines in the area. Tickets cost 20 Euro and can be purchased directly at the six refuges. A leaflet on the event is available at Alta Badia tourist offices.
