NEW: Rifugio Piz Boè – Alpine Lounge

The Rifugio Piz Boè – Alpine Lounge has been built entirely with natural yet simple materials, such as wood and locally sourced Dolomite stone, giving the lounge a very natural look on the exterior and the interior of the building. A high standard of energy saving technology (Class B classification) guarantees the building respects the mountain environment. A 34 metre window affords stunning panoramic views across all of Alta Badia, and makes Piz Boè a truly unique location. There is a 40 seat Gourmet restaurant to enjoy whilst the real heart of the structure is the Lounge Bar. Furnished with comfortable armchairs and a central wooden stove it’s a great base to relax after a super ski day. The bar itself is very modern and extends 20 metres connecting the interior with the large terrace area. The bar was onceived as a mix between tradition and technological advancements at the uphill station of Boé at 2190 metres. It has already been heralded in Italy as one of the most important developments in mountain architecture. www.boealpinelounge.it

NEW: The Skicarousel Vintage Party

There will be a vintage feel when Alta Badia will celebrate the end of the 2014/15 winter season. On Saturday and Sunday 11th and 12th April the Alta Badia Tourism Board and the Skicarosello have decided to recreate the look and the feel of the ski area from decades past. This will take place both in the valley and directly on the slopes. Participants will be asked to dress and carry skis from the 1950’s to the 1990’s to create a vintage atmosphere throughout the region. On the Saturday evening there will be a series of events in valley. Each village will choose a vintage theme of its choice. On the Sunday skiers will take part in a vintage ski race with bamboo being used to mark the gates down the slope of La Para, where the still working traditional ski lift is still operating. The mountain huts will contribute and will be offering an atmosphere of days gone by. It’s a free to join in the celebrations. www.altabadia.org

  5.  The family park is called Funslope Biok and is full of kickers, tunnels and subway style passes made of snow.
  6.  For youngsters looking to learn to ski, there is the wonderful Pralongiá II slope where young children can have great fun skiing between huge rubber pieces of ‘cheese’ and ‘tree trunks’. Then head to bear cave up at Piz Sorega. This year there will be a NEW piste map created especially for children called ‘MoviMap’. It is intended that the kids will learn to read a map in a fun, simple, and informative manner.
  7. Safety is a priority when out skiing on the slopes of Alta Badia. The Safety Park at the valley station of Pralongiá I offers skiers chance to learn to read and understand the signs displayed on the slopes.
  8. A NEW chairlift, “Pralongiá” has been installed for winter 2014/15 and is an automatic coupling chairlift. It is the most modern of chairlifts and has an hourly carrying capacity of 1800 persons and a speed of 5m/s.
  9.  Memories are important after a pleasurable holiday to Alta Badia and to mark this Alta Badia tourism has installed a number of free photo machines around resort. The BMW Photopoints are at Vallon and at the start hut of the World Cup run on the Gran Risa slope. The Photopoints “Ride in the summer” give the opportunity to take rather particular style photos: wearing ski gear and boots but sat on a mountain bike with a snow-covered mountain background! And to complete the list the NEW styled M&G Photopoint will be on the Biok slope.
